“Make Way For Menino” garners Communicator Award for BlueStar Media

Needham, Massachusetts; January 10, 2006

BlueStar Media, a Needham-based corporate communications, media and event production company, is pleased to announce that the political commercial “Make Way for Menino" is the recipient of a 2005 "Crystal Award of Excellence” from the Communicator Awards.

Produced for Boston mayoral candidate Maura Hennigan in her effort to unseat Mayor Tom Menino, “Make Way For Menino” is a parody of the children’s classic “Make Way For Ducklings.” The 30-second spot, featuring original illustrations in the McCloskey style and a whimsical audio track, tells the story of a mayor who “ducks” from confronting the real issues facing Boston voters. The innovative approach to a campaign ad brought a great deal of attention to the race, including several pieces on primetime local news, a 15-minute long segment on WGBH’s “Greater Boston.” Print coverage included a number of articles in local, national and international press newspapers, including The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times and The Guardian in the U.K.

“It’s especially gratifying to be honored by one’s professional peers for
something that was so effective and that we had such fun creating,” said Rob Stegman, BlueStar’s President and Executive Producer.

The Communicator Awards is an international program that honors excellence in communications, giving producers and their clients the recognition that their work is outstanding and highly regarded by their peers. “Make Way For Menino” was chosen from over 3,000 entries for this honor.
